DERRICK MURDOCH AWARD 2013

Lyn Hamilton was the author of a successful series of archaeological mysteries featuring the peripatetic sleuth, antiques dealer Lara McClintoch. Each of the novels is set in a different and exotic location and draws on the ancient past in a unique way. A long time student of archaeology and mythology, Lyn brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to the series. As former director of the Cultural Programs Branch of the Ontario government, she was responsible for the licensing of all archaeology in the province as well as for museum programs.

 Lyn Hamilton

Lyn visited the exotic sites she wrote about, and in 1999 led The Maltese Goddess mystery and archaeology tour to Malta to visit the scene of the crime. Her books have been translated into several languages, and the fourth in the series, The Celtic Riddle, formed the basis for Angela Lansbury’s 2003 Murder She Wrote TV movie. Lyn, like Lara, was something of an antiques addict.
