Shelby Cain was raised in Cranbrook, British Columbia. After completing a degree in biology at the university of Alberta, she spent years travelling and working in the medical industry. When she had her first child and began her maternity leave she found an opportunity to explore the unexamined in herself. She began to write, and discovered her passion.
Shelby now lives an hour away from her home town, residing in Fernie with her husband and two young daughters. She has won multiple awards for her short stories in both fiction and non-fiction. Her work can be seen regularly in Fernie Fix magazine and the international publication Kootenay Mountain Culture magazine. Mountain Girl is her first novel.
