Shortlist Events



The Finalists for all categories will be posted on the Website Homepage before Midnight.

Victoria: The Arthur Ellis Awards Shortlist Event will be at Russell Books. William Deverell, Kay Stewart, R.J. McMillen, Phyllis Smallman, and Benni Chisholm will read from their latest books, discuss the types of crime fiction they represent, and reveal the names of the writers shortlisted for the Arthur Ellis Awards.

Location: Russell Books, 734 Fort Street, Victoria, 7:30-9:00

Vancouver: The Arthur Ellis Awards Shortlist Event will be held at the main branch of the Vancouver Public Library with an opportunity to meet and chat with local authors Cathy Ace, Marty Allen, Katherine Prairie, Merrilee Robson, Elle Wild, and moderator Sam Wiebe. Dead Write Books will be there to sell the authors’ books and you can get them signed. Writers will take part in a panel to discuss their work and answer questions from the audience. At 8:00 pm the Arthur Ellis Awards Shortlists will be announced.

Calgary: The Prairie Region’s Arthur Ellis Awards Shortlist Event will be held in Calgary. A panel featuring Susan Calder, Axel Howerton, Jayne Barnard and Dwayne Clayden with David A. Poulsen as moderator will give short readings followed by a discussion centred around the theme "Not Your Grandmother's Whodunit". Through the course of the evening the shortlisted books will be announced.

Location: Rose and Crown Pub, 1503 4th St. SW, Calgary, 7:00

Toronto: This year's Arthur Ellis Awards Shortlist Event will be held at the Yonge & Eglinton Indigo. Anita Arvast, Rick Blechta, Rob Brunet, Steve Burrows, Lisa de Nikolits, K.J. Howe, John Oughton and others will present a mix of readings and discussion about their work.

Location: Indigo Yonge Eglinton Centre, 2300 Yonge St., Toronto, 7:00-8:30

Ottawa: Eastern Region CWC members will celebrate the Arthur Ellis Awards Shortlist Event at the Chapters Rideau location in Ottawa, where we have been hosted for the past three years. The evening will include a "Match the Authors to their Series" game, along with readings by participating CWC members. The shortlist announcements will be made throughout the evening.

Location: Chapters, 47 Rideau St. (second level), Ottawa, 7:00-9:00

Montreal: Montreal will have an Arthur Ellis Awards Shortlist Event for the first time in many years. Among the local crime writers announcing the shortlists will be Peter Kirby, Michael Blair, and Michael Kent. Three first time authors will join the group: Jim Napier, Geri Newell and Christopher Huang. Regional Rep Hilary MacLeod will also take part.
