Jill Downie’s journey to mystery writing has been as varied as the places she has lived. Born in Guyana, then British Guiana, she returned to live in England and the Channel Island of Guernsey, before going back to study in England, and at the Sorbonne in Paris, finally settling in Canada.
She is the author of plays, short stories, historical fiction, and award-winning biographies. Her biography, Storming the Castle, was a book-of-the-month-club selection, and her plays have been performed and workshopped in Toronto.
It was on a return visit to Guernsey that she became a crime writer, when she saw the possibilities of a unique setting for a mystery series, and Detective Inspector Ed Moretti and his partner, Detective Sergeant Liz Falla, came into her life, and the lives of her readers. Published by Dundurn, three books in the series have been published, to positive reviews.
