The entrance lobby of the library will feature a criminous display of books by Crime Writers of Canada authors, together with a variety of promotional materials.

Location (all three days): Crime writers JAMES HAWKINS, ROY INNES, KAY STEWART, and CHRIS BULLOCK will be on hand during the above hours from Wednesday to Friday to discuss their books and crime writing in general. They'll also be offering free blue-pencil sessions to aspiring writers, so dig that crime manuscript out from under your bed and get some advice about it from one of our authors. Mayhem for Readers and Writers Join a gang of local CWC writers for a full day of
criminous activities:
Murder in the Stacks During National Crime Writing Week, the Calgary Public
Library will feature a criminous display of books by Prairie crime writers. Pick
up a free CWC catalogue and bookmark and delve into some Cool Canadian Crime
books.
From June 9 till
the end of the month, the
display will be expanded to
include books by CWC members across Canada. Crime in
Cattle Country During National Crime Writing Week, Owl's Nest Books will
feature a criminous display of
books by Canadian crime writers, with a focus on crime fiction. Pick up a
free CWC catalogue and bookmark and find yourself some Cool Canadian Crime
to read.

Look Who’s Reading Canadian
Mysteries! Join some prominent Canadians in
arts, media, and politics as they read from the works of favourite Canadian
mystery authors: Host: John Moore, radio personality on CFRB and host of Mystery Ink Before and after the readings, books will be available for purchase and signing. SLEUTH OF BAKER STREET bookstore (donor of the cash prize for the CWC’s Arthur Ellis Award for Best Novel) is supplying the books and is graciously donating their share of the proceeds to the Toronto Public Library Foundation to support TPL literacy programs. Ellis Awards gala dinner where awards for the best in Canadian crime writing
from 2006 will be presented in five categories: The coveted prize is Arthur, the notorious hanged-man statuette, who carries the nom de travail of Canada’s long-gone official executioner. This year is also the inaugural year of the new Arthur Ellis Award for Best Unpublished First Novel (aka the Unhanged Arthur). Publisher McArthur & Company is donating the cash prize for this award and will be looking at the winning manuscript with an eye to possible publication. Miss Marple vs Sam Spade In a kick-off event to National Crime Writing Week, Miss Marple takes on the mean streets in this high-stakes debate on the cozy mystery vs the hard-boiled crime novel. On the cozy side, R.J. HARLICK and MARY JANE MAFFINI go head to head with hard-boilers BARBARA FRADKIN and RICK MOFINA. Moderator ALEX BRETT will do her best to prevent bloodshed. The evening will open with readings by 2007 Arthur Ellis award nominee VICKI CAMERON and CLA award nominee BRENDA CHAPMAN. And there are door prizes to be won and refreshments, too, courtesy of Crime Writers of Canada. PRIME CRIME MYSTERY BOOKSTORE will be selling books for signing.
