A lapsed member of WinOs (Writers in Oxford), a member in more-or-less good standing of both the Crime Writers of Canada and the Mystery Writers of America, and a former teacher of crime fiction and creative writing, Jim Napier is currently writing a crime series featuring DCI Colin McDermott of the London Metropolitan Police. The first, Impurely Academic, brings McDermott back to his alma mater to face old friends and foes in order to find the killer of a young female student. Ridley’s War, the second novel, takes McDermott to southern France, Italy and Yorkshire on a quest to solve crimes both past and present. Both manuscripts are currently seeking a publisher, and a third novel is on its way. In addition to his own crime writing Jim pens a column regularly reviewing the best in contemporary mystery and crime fiction. Titled Suspended Sentences, the column appears in the Sherbrooke Record, Quebec’s largest English-speaking newspaper outside of Montreal. Occasionally, he interviews other crime writers, the interviews appearing on the Internet and in print. Although a number of authors and publishers currently feature his reviews on their own Websites, plans are afoot to develop a dedicated website where readers can access all of Jim’s reviews and interviews. He also gives public talks on crime writing, crime writers, and the publishing industry. Jim has traveled extensively in Canada and the U.S., Britain, and Europe, and to a lesser extent in South America. His other interests include golf, cooking, American football, vintage movies, and landscape photography. His photographs of urban landscapes can be found on the University of Washington’s Cities and Buildings Database, at http://content.lib.washington.edu/buildingsweb/ Jim is also a founding member of Kindred Spirits, a single-malt appreciation society based in Sherbrooke, Quebec. He and his wife, Roya, live in Sherbrooke, QC, with their irrepressible Welsh Terrier, Whisky.
