About the CWC Club Critique

Where peer review meets professional growth.

Writing may be a solitary act, but refining your work shouldn't be. The CWC Club Critique Program connects crime writers across Canada to provide constructive, craft-focused feedback in a safe and supportive environment. Whether you are drafting a cozy mystery, a gritty noir, or a true crime exposé, our peer-led groups are designed to help you move from first draft to "submission ready."

How It Works

Our program uses a structured, small-group format to ensure every member receives high-quality attention:

  • Small Groups: Writers are matched in genre-specific or mixed-crime groups to ensure relevant feedback.
  • Monthly Sessions: Groups meet once a month via Zoom to discuss a rotating selection of member manuscripts (up to 2,500 words per submission).
  • Detailed Feedback: Members provide both in-document written critiques (using Track Changes) and verbal feedback during live sessions.
  • Professional Standards: All groups operate under a clear Code of Conduct, ensuring every writer is treated with respect and every manuscript remains confidential.

Why Join a Critique Group?

  • Identify Blind Spots: Discover what’s working and what isn't in your plot, pacing, and character development.
  • Maintain Momentum: Regular deadlines help you stay committed to your writing goals.
  • Build Community: Connect with fellow CWC members who understand the unique challenges of the crime genre.
  • Learn by Reading: Analyzing the work of others is one of the fastest ways to improve your own editorial eye.
