The Roaring Game Murders
Peter Holloway
Detectives Tate Boman, late thirties, and Claire Kozak, late twenties, join forces to investigate two murders in the fictional community of Boundary, a suburban rural delta between Vancouver and the U.S. border. A curler mysteriously drops dead after throwing the first rock of the game and the suspects are the other seven players. A real estate transaction that goes off the rails involves the victim and three of the curlers. An off-duty policeman has been shot while riding his bike on the dike that protects the community, and the local police are spinning their wheels. Data analysis has revealed the coincidence of a senior officer of the Boundary Police and a Cartel leader being in Giverny on the same day several years before.
The investigation unravels the mystery of the curler’s death as we learn more about the club members and the community’s hidden past. The detectives gather new evidence in the police killing, and follow the trail of the cartel involvement where both of their lives are put in jeopardy, as they press forward to resolution.
Tate is navigating the disintegration of his marriage while Claire must come to terms with the violence lurking deep in her character. The fast-moving plot drives through the persistent west coast spring rain and the social issues (climate change, racism, bullying) that are forcing the once conservative community to deal with their ever-evolving world.
